In a Class by Itself - Awesome, Submitted by NoDuplicates on 12/24/2011
I bought this for live-in caregivers to monitor two house doors that my mother, who as dementia, could possibly sneak out through. (I bought an extra sensor for the second door.) I tried other RF (radio frequency) transmitter/receiver devices and none had the range. This one works flawlessly. In the beginning I was getting some flash alarms due to squirrels and cats in the middle of the night. I replaced the sensor window/screen with one (included) that detects only a horizontal field. Now it only goes off only when a door is opened -- exactly what I wanted. The sensor runs on a 9V battery. I replace it every 2-3 months but not because it needs it, just because I visit at these intervals and don't want the caregivers to be without this tool. You can program the base unit with your voice to say "front door", "side door, up to a total of six warnings, one for each sensor or one for many sensors (i.e., "swimming pool" for more than one sensor). A light flashes to let you know a sensor has been triggered in your absence. The sensors have stood up to lots of rain. Volume is adjustable and can be very loud if you prefer. I am guessing that the relays could be used to trigger a light if you could wire up one inline. It may seem like a lot of money but you get what you pay for!
