The ELK-930 has three functions. It can sense ring activation from one of two doorbell buttons and one telephone line. It conveniently shunts the current and voltage and makes an open collector (pull to ground) output which can trigger an automation controller, timer, relay, etc. The circuit is pre-scored so that individual detectors can be snapped (separated) from each other.
The ELK-930 Doorbell Detector keeps track of the current draw of a doorbell and makes an open collector output when either the doorbell is pressed or the doorbell draws 900mA or more. This open collector output can trigger an automation controller input that uses high to low switching (pull to ground) for performance. The ELK-930 Telephone Ring Detector keeps track of the voltage on the telephone line and makes an open collector output (pull to ground) when approximately 50 Volts or greater for the telephone ringing voltage is needed. The output follows the same lines as the ringing pattern.
